Red Velvet Cake Recipe

Here's a great recipe for Red Velvet Cake

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
2 1/4 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. butter flavoring (optional)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp.  baking soda
1 Tbsp. vinegar

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
Make paste with food coloring and cocoa; add to mixture
Add salt and flour with buttermilk, butter flavororing and vanilla
Alternately add baking soda and vinegar - do not beat hard, just blend
Pour into two 8 inch round cake pans (greased and floured)
Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees

Frosting Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 cut butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook flour and milk on low heat until thick - cool
Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy
Add to flour-milk mixture and beat until mixture is like whipped cream

Frost cake when it's cool - keep cake cool so icing doesn't melt
